Fun Facts

  • WEIGHT: When I was a youngster I had to take dietary supplements to help gain weight. Now I pay people to help me lose it.
  • SPORTS: I participated in competitive swimming as a young girl. Now I have a swimming pool and never go in it. It’s hard to swim with a cover-up on. Only God sees me in a swim suit.
  • FAVORITE MEMORY: My Mom was Canadian. Her step-father was very wealthy and we flew in his private plane up to Georgian Bay to spend summers at their cottage. He named his boat “Judy.” It’s humbling to be thought of as a boat.
  • BROKEN BONES: I broke my elbow when I fell in a showroom at the L. A. Gift Mart. The fall sounded like the Whittier earthquake. I was so humiliated.
  • FIRST BOYFRIEND: When I was 12 I started playing the flute in the band and I fell in love with the drummer-boy. It started off on the wrong note…and that was that.
  • LAST BOYFRIEND:…My husband of 48+ years.
  • MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: When I was in 9th grade I decided to try out for All-State Band. I made it through the audition without fainting from fright, but afterwards I was so rattled I walked off the stage…literally…and fell about 6 feet. My ego was irreparably damaged.
  • VOCALS: I have sung for several weddings and funerals and now I sing for our dog.
  • FRIENDS: Friends are a huge blessing in my life. My childhood friend Bunnie and I are still friends. We met when I was about 5 and she was 6 in Santa Fe, New Mexico where we grew up. Now Bunnie claims she is younger than me. What’s with that?
  • WORST SUBJECT IN SCHOOL. Hands down …math. I am learning impaired in that department. My husband was a math minor. Guess who does the finances in our home? Duh! However, I do have the gift of spending.
  • FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: Maui (with cover-ups)
  • FAMOUS PEOPLE: I used to do my ironing with Penny Marshall (star of Laverne and Shirley). Her first husband played college football with my only husband. Many of the wives gathered together to listen to out-of-town games on the radio while we did the ironing. Penny was very nice and lots of fun. I don’t think she enjoyed ironing though. Another famous person I know is our dog’s Veterinarian. His daughter is Janet Evans, the 5 time gold medal winner in swimming in the Olympics. I think this actually makes me a famous person.
  • HOBBIES: Music, piano, writing, reading, entertaining, gardening, decorating our home. I used to sew. Back in the day it was on the list of things a domestic goddess was supposed to do. I knew it was not my gift when I looked for ways to blow up my sewing machine. I also had a hard time understanding the directions on the patterns! Personally, I prefer giving directions.
  • EXERCISE: I just gave away my third treadmill. I never even plugged it in. Finally resorted to walking daily with the help of an iPod. Keeps me entertained so I don’t die of boredom.
  • CONTEST WINNER: My first break in writing happened in my early 20’s. I wrote a caption for a picture taken from the movie “That Darn Cat.” I won $25.00. It made the newspapers. I’ll give out autographs later.
  • REGRETS: I love my husband, but at my age I wish he was a Dermatologist. Free Retin-A!
  • GRANDCHILDREN: An hour with your grandchildren can make you feel young again. Anything longer than that, and you start to age quickly. It’s the best stage of life though. I was visiting my grandchildren in Chicago one summer, and we sat out on their deck to visit. My granddaughter was 9 years old at the time and she remarked, “Grandma, your neck is falling!” I thought, “Isn’t she a smart little girl? Too bad she is no longer in our will!!”
  • COMPUTERS: I am not sure where this is in the Bible, but part of being a really good friend means they should immediately clear my computer history when I die.
  • HANDWRITING: Dear Teachers, was learning cursive really necessary?
  • STOP LIGHTS: The only time I look forward to them is when I am finishing up a text on my Blackberry.
  • HERITAGE: My dad was born in Scotland and Mom was born in Canada.
  • Our dog’s heritage is Wales. DSCF3033
  • Fun Facts about Welsh Terriers: They know how to have cheap fun!

Judy, I’ve thought of you over the years and would love to make contact. I’m not sure you are the Judy that I worked with at ACF, Industries in Albuqerque, NM. If you are please email me. Thanks, Loretta

I was doing my homework on you so that I can properly introduce you at the Kindred’s Women Retreat next week! You are a crack up! I look forward to meeting you! Oh and just for the record, you and I will get along just great! I have to keep remembering…I’m strictly the emcee…not the entertainment! Try prying the mic out of my hands!!!

Your very excited emcee for the weekend,
    Linda
